It's officially summer at Purgatory Mountain. The highly anticipated, newly remodeled base village area opened on Friday, June 13th with summer daily activities. Children of all ages experienced the Bungee Trampoline, Climbing Wall and the new Durango Mining Company, and on the mountain the popular Alpine Slide, Scenic Chairlift Rides and 50 miles of Mountain Biking and Hiking trails.
Next time you visit the resort, whether it's this summer or next winter, you'll be amazed at the new Purgatory Village. The area for friends and family to gather is larger than it has ever been and offers a glimpse of the famous Purgatory Creek (the same creek that inspired the resort's original name). In the winter this area will be loaded with snow for children to play, build snowmen and maybe even have a snowball fight or two.
It's all part of Durango Mountain Resort's ongoing improvements in the village and on the mountain. Purgatory Lodge construction is well ahead of schedule and guests will be able to experience the new lodge later this summer. When you visit this season you'll notice we are moving offices into the new building making your vacation even easier and convenient. Purgatory Lodge's plaza level will now be home to our new Tickets and Season Pass Offices, as well as public restrooms, lockers and retail and rental space. The official Grand Opening of Purgatory Lodge will be this winter when the entire building opens with upgraded skier services and amenities, the Durango Mountain Club, and Purgy's Day Lodge. The new, world-class restaurant will feature an expanded outdoor area, more dining space than ever before, and high-tech features for conferences and weddings. In the evenings, Purgy's will turn into a sit-down restaurant featuring the finest local and regional cuisine.
We're still putting on the final touches to Purgatory Lodge, but we invite you to visit this summer, see the new village first-hand and learn more about our planned improvements.
